The resort spans huge elevation changes, with the base sitting at 6,200 feet and its highest peak, Granite Chief, topping 9,050 feet above sea level. The ski season here generally runs from mid-November through late May, with over 40 feet of fresh snow falling throughout the ski season. Under the snow, the slopes are granite mountainsides that provide the steep Big Mountain skiing that Squaw Valley USA is known for. Altogether, there are 177 runs on these six peaks, including 25% rated as easy, 45% rated more difficult, and 30% rated most difficult. The resort is known for hits highly advanced chairlifts. The 33 lifts carry more than 49,000 skiers to the top of the slopes each hour. There are also three terrain parks at Squaw Valley USA, providing visitors with a rugged and adventurous alternative to the slopes. The resort offers plenty of other winter activities as well, including ice skating, wall climbing, snow tubing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and more.
